數週前我讀完了湯米湯姆斯的《我的故事：曠野中的正義》。那是農曆新年假期之前搶購到的新書。既然今年過年不能跨州而且慶祝也有所限制，這當然是好好讀書的好時機。湯姆斯是希望聯盟執政馬來西亞聯邦政府時期的總檢察長，任期是2018年6月至2020年2月。
這本書寫得很好，我讀的章節都是跳躍式，因為我對於自己對1957年至2021年的馬來西亞政治歷史很有信心，隨時讀一段歷史都不會覺得混亂和陌生。對於律師和其他有志於從事法律工作的人士而言，書中詳述很多案件的細節確實是很好的學習內容。
我想這本書可以更好一些，那就是編輯為這本書創建更為完整的索引。若讀者必須掃描前段或後文尋找縮寫的全名，這是相當混淆的，讀者大多不太清楚法律相關的英文縮寫。
我於是想到我其實可以幫客戶的書本或文件創建索引，中文或英文的索引大概是沒什麼問題。

Several weeks ago I have finished reading Tommy Thomas’s My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, a book which I bought before Lunar New Year holiday. Given the interstate travel and celebration restrictions, it was surely a good time to read the book quietly. Thomas was the former Attorney General of Malaysia from June 2018 to February 2020 serving the Harapan government administration.
The book was very well written and I read the chapters randomly, for I am confident enough with my knowledge of Malaysia’s political history to delve into the details of any period from 1957 to 2021 without feeling overwhelmed and confused. For lawyers and those interested to pursue a legal career, the detailed accounts of the many important cases in the book are definitely a good learning lesson.
The only improvement I can think of is for the editor to come up with a more comprehensive index for the book. For readers who are not familiar enough with so many law-related acronyms, it is quite confusing as they might be looking for the full name of an acronym around the paragraphs.
Which brings me to the idea of offering the service of creating an index for a book or document. And building index for either English or Chinese language is possible.
