Listen more and write better 聽得多自然寫得好

We are readers before we can become writers. Reading is the best way to learn how other writers express their ideas, and it allows us to gain knowledge and wisdom of good writers. Given the change of modern time, writing is presented in many forms. Other than printed books, newspapers and magazines, we have electronic versions of those.

For me, listening is another form of reading. I love listening to different English contents, including radio podcasts, news programmes, documentaries and many more. Contents produced in Australia and United Kingdom are always my favourite, while I also follow Malaysian and Singaporean English-language programmes regularly to keep myself updated of the latest development in the region.

When I write English copies or translate Chinese works into English, the phrases and terms, expressions and wording that flash through my mind are often what I previously heard. And this proves to be a useful method for me to write better.

每個人成為作者之前都是一個讀者。若想學習其他作者如何表達一己想法，若想學習他們的知識與智慧，閱讀就是最佳方法。多得時代變遷，文字呈現的方式亦有改變。除了紙本書、報章和雜誌，我們有了這些讀物的電子版本。

對我而言，聽節目是閱讀的另一個形式。我喜愛收聽不同類型的英語節目，例如電台播客節目、新聞時事、紀錄片等等。我尤其喜歡追蹤澳洲和英國的節目，星馬地區的節目亦常常聆聽，以便瞭解本區域最新發展。

當我寫英文文案或將中文文件翻譯入英文的時候，腦海中出現的遣詞用字與表達方式往往是我之前在英語節目中聽過的字句。由此可見，這是讓我寫得更好的一個方法。
