粵語中「水」字的應用非常靈活，除了跟錢財相關的用法之外，生活中其他表達方式亦是非常生動敏銳。
The usage of the word ‘water’ is very flexible in Cantonese language. It is widely used for expressions related to money, as well as some very lively and apt descriptions of some situations of our daily life.
睇水：觀察形勢、以防萬一
(tai2 seoi2): Observe the situation to avoid untoward incident.
放水：讓利予對手
(fong3 seoi2): Giving advantage to your opponent or someone.
通水：將不該洩漏的資訊透露給某人／某一方
(tung1 seoi2): Conceding information that should not be leaked to another person / party.
威水：威風
(wai1 seoi2): Feeling proud.
插水：股票或貨幣或某事物的價值大幅貶值；足球員在禁區內假裝遭對手絆倒
(caap3 seoi2): Value of share or currency or something plummeting; footballers diving in penalty box.
豬籠入水：賺大錢、賺得盆滿缽滿
(zyu1 lung4 jap2 seoi2): Earning big bucks; earning ‘bucket-full’ of money.
油水：不正當管道的錢財
(jau4 seoi2): Money of unscrupulous sources.
撈油水：賺取不正當管道的錢財
(lou1 jau4 seoi2): Earning money of unscrupulous sources.
Cap 水：賺錢（可能是正當或不正當管道）
(cap seoi2): Making money (could be scrupulous or unscrupulous sources).
